In 2019, Governor Newsom signed 18 bills meant to boost California’s housing production and a handful of those eliminated barriers for homeowners to build accessory dwelling units (ADUs). Also known as second units, granny flats, or backyard homes, they’re becoming a common solution to increase property value and overall livable space for other family members or for outside rental. We’re happy to see that these units have been able to provide housing for grandparents, school teachers, firefighters and other members of our community. Osorio Architecture can work with you to determine if it’s feasible to build one on your property, either as a standalone unit, a conversion or addition to your garage, or a unit contained entirely within your home.

Remodels and Additions
A good remodel or addition will look like it has always been a part of the house. Weaving it into the existing fabric of a home is an art and Osorio Architecture aims to make these changes seamless. Our goal is to create the most functional space possible, keeping what we can and removing what doesn’t work. We specialize in working with contractors and city regulators to eliminate snags and stick to designated timelines. We’ll recommend materials that are reliable and low maintenance, but also better for the environment. Most importantly, our well managed and personable process will make this an enjoyable experience.
